TV viewers stunned by astonishing detail with Canelo vs Ryder ring during world title clash

BOXING fans were quick to notice a specific detail with the ring ahead of Saturday’s super-middleweight bout between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and John Ryder.

Canelo successfully defended his undisputed super-middleweight crown on home soil following a stunning display at the Akron Stadium.

Canelo took on Ryder in Mexico on Saturday

The Mexican dropped his opponent in round five

He won the bout by unanimous decision with scores of 120-107, 118-109 and 118-109.

But some boxing fans claimed that he was at an advantage before the fight had even begun.

Prior to the first bell, eagle-eyed viewers noticed that the size of the ring was unusually small.

One person tweeted: “This ring size for the Canelo fight is the SMALLEST ring I’ve ever seen! It looks like children should be fighting in it!”

Another added: “Agreeing To This Ring Size With Canelo Is Suicide.”

A third claimed: “Gonna be short night for Canelo with that ring size.”

While a fourth wrote: “Canelo Alvarez should benefit from small ring. John Ryder won’t have anywhere to hide inside Guadalajara’s 18-foot ring.

“Alvarez is always comfortable fighting in close proximity to his opponents, and the smaller ring size means Ryder will have less room for error.”

Canelo won by unanimous decision

The standard size of a professional boxing ring can range from 16 square feet to 24 square feet.

Canelo is known to prefer a smaller-sized ring.

In May 2021, the Mexican got into a dispute with British boxer Billy Joe Saunders over the proposed 18ft ring that was set to be used in their super-middleweight bout.

Saunders, who likened the 18ft ring to a “phone box”, threatened to walk away from the fight altogether unless a bigger one was confirmed for the fight.

The issue was eventually resolved when the pair agreed on a 22ft ring.

The 18ft ring certainly suited Canelo on Saturday.

The 32-year-old dominated the fight and dropped Ryder in round five, but the Brit fought back to go the distance despite sustaining a broken nose.

  • Techniques for punching
  • Guarding techniques
  • Footwork
  • Stance
  • Move your body
  • Defense
  • Combination
  • Rotation
  • Sparring

Punching Techniques

There are seven types of punches available: Left Hook and Right Hook, Cross, Cross, Straight, Underhand, Overhand, Cross, Straight, Cross, Straight, Cross, Straight, and Overhand. Each punch is unique. Some punches require more force than others. For example, an uppercut is a powerful punch. On the other hand, a straight punch requires less power but it is faster than other punches.

There are also different combinations. These are combinations which combine several punches in order to achieve a specific goal. A combination can contain multiple parts. For example, a combination of a left and right hook will result in damage to the opponent’s jaw.

Guard Techniques

A boxer uses his body to protect himself against attacks. He does this by using his legs, arms, elbows, hands, knees and feet.

Legs

Boxers should use the legs to protect themselves against kicks. When he receives a kick, he raises his leg and moves away from the attacker. If the attacker is coming from the front, he will bend at the knees to avoid getting kicked on either side. But if the attack comes in the back, he will stand straight and block the kick using his foot.

Elbows

Because they inflict pain, elbow strikes can be very effective. An elbow strike can be delivered either directly or indirectly. Directly refers to hitting your opponent with the forearm, while indirect means you hit him using another part of your arms.

Hands

Boxers use both their hands and arms to prevent incoming blows. Boxers use their hands to stop incoming punches. They raise their fists up above their heads and move towards the attack. They then touch the attackers fist.

Knees

Boxers should bend their knees when receiving blows to the abdomen, stomach, or chest. Knee strikes can be used to defend yourself.

Feet

A boxer should not be afraid to respond to an attack. This will allow him to gain distance from his opponent. Additionally, boxers need to maintain their balance when they counter-attack.

Stances

Boxing effectively requires a boxer to have a good stance. The way he defends him will be dictated by his stance. It defines where he faces his opponent and how he positions his body. Boxers have many options for stances. These are the most popular:

  • A low stance
  • High stance
  • Southpaw stance
  • Western stance

The Body Movement

In order to win a fight, a boxer must move around his opponent. This requires changing your position, speed, and rhythm.

Rotation

A boxer will rotate his arm when he is throwing a punch. Different types of punches require different speeds for the rotation.

Combinations

The timing of each individual punch affects the effectiveness or failure of a combination. A good combination starts with a strong punch and ends with a weak one.

Spares

Sparring is a practice session designed to improve boxing skills . A sparring session is where a boxer trains both his mind and his body. In conclusion, the purpose of sparring is to learn how to fight and not get hurt.

It is important to be patient and dedicated when learning how to box. To become a better fighter, you have to train hard and continue to work.
