Tyson Fury could be forced to fight Anthony Joshua in monster battle of Britain thanks to loophole, reveals WBC chief

TYSON FURY may be forced to defend his heavyweight belt against Anthony Joshua, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has admitted.

The Gypsy King has been out of action since defeating Derek Chisora in a Tottenham Hotspur Stadium snoozefest last December.

Tyson Fury is currently without a fight

Anthony Joshua defeated Jermaine Franklin in April

Since talks over an April 29 unification bout against Oleksandr Usyk fell through, Fury has found himself without a fight.

With the 34-year-old still without an opponent, Sulaiman is set to order a mandatory challenger for him.

And depending on what happens with Deontay Wilder’s proposed bout with Andy Ruiz Jr – AJ could be next in line for a shot at Fury.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Sulaiman said: “We have to take some action. There are different options.

“I’m going to address this with the board of governors, because already we’re entering June and there’s no scenario.

“Tyson Fury will make us proud and show who the WBC champion is.”

Further quizzed if Joshua could be in the frame, Sulaiman admitted: “That’s a possibility. If Wilder and Ruiz are not fighting for the final elimination, Joshua’s right there at No3. That’s possible.

“I don’t want to speculate because that would be irresponsible to try to make something up.

“We have to go through a process. The WBC board of governors will make that decision.

“At this stage anything is possible.

“There’s too much talent, too many great fights, too many great combinations that could be made for heavyweight and everything is stalled.”

Joshua, 33, is third ranked WBC heavyweight contender – with Wilder No1 and Ruiz Jr No2.

The British former world champion was last in action in April, when he beat Jermaine Franklin via decision at London’s 02 Arena.

  • Footwork
  • Stance

  • Defense
  • Combination
  • Rotation
  • Spares

Punching Techniques

There are seven types: Left Hook (right hook), Right Hook (uppercut), Cross (cross), Straight, Overhand, Underhand. Each punch comes with its own technique. Some punches need more power than others. A strong uppercut for example requires a lot of force. On the contrary, a straight punch takes less power but is faster than most punches.

There are also various punching combinations. These are combinations that combine punches to accomplish a particular goal. A combination may contain several parts. For example, a left hook followed by a right cross will cause damage to the opponent’s jaw.

Guard Techniques

A boxer uses his body to protect himself against attacks. He does this using his legs and arms, elbows as well as hands, knees and feet.

Legs

Boxers must use their legs to defend themselves against kicks. If he gets kicked, he raises one leg and turns away from his attacker. If the attack comes from the front, then he bends his knees to avoid being kicked on the side. If the attack is from the side, he will bend his knees to avoid being kicked on the side.

Elbows

Because they cause great pain, elbow strikes are extremely effective. An elbow strike can be delivered directly or indirectly. Directly means that your opponent is hit with your forearm. However, indirectly means that your elbow strike is delivered with another part or your arm.

Hands

Boxers use the power of their hands to block any incoming blows. To do so, they raise their fists above their head and move them towards the direction of the attack. Then they make contact with the attacker’s fist.

Knees

Boxers should bend their knees when receiving blows to the abdomen, stomach, or chest. Knee strikes can be used to defend yourself.

Feet

If he is being attacked, a boxer must take a step back and counter-attack. This way, he can gain distance between himself and his opponent. Additionally, boxers need to maintain their balance when they counter-attack.

Stances

To box effectively, a boxer must establish a stance. His stance will determine how he defends. It dictates how he places his body and faces his opponent. Boxers can take many different stances. These are the most popular:

  • Low stance
  • High stance
  • Southpaw stance
  • Western stance

Body Movement

To win a fight, a fighter must move around the opponent. This requires changing your position, speed, and rhythm.

Rotation

To increase his punching power, a boxer rotates when he throws a punch. Depending on the type and size of punch, the speed at which the rotation takes place varies.

Combinations

The timing of each individual punch affects the effectiveness or failure of a combination. A good combination starts with a strong punch and ends with a weak one.

Spares

Sparring is a training session that improves boxing skills. Sparring allows a boxer to improve his mental and physical skills. Sparring is a way to learn how to fight without getting hurt.
