Anthony Joshua called to fight Anthony Joshua

It leaves the Gypsy King without an opponent but following Joshua’s return victory he called out his British rival.

But neither Usyk or AJ are on Fury’s radar, after his US promoter Bob Arum named Joe Joyce and Andy Ruiz Jr as frontrunners.

Arum told BoxingScene: “Joyce would be a possibility, assuming he gets by the Chinese fighter, because Tyson wants to fight this summer.

“And Andy Ruiz would be a possibility. We’re gonna be talking to Tyson next week.”

Joyce, 37, returns tonight against Zhang Zhilei, 39, and with his eyes on Fury or Usyk’s title.

Meanwhile Ruiz, 33, is yet to fight since beating Cuban Luis Ortiz, 44, in September and still remains advised by boxing mogul Al Haymon.

Haymon’s stable regularly box on Showtime or Fox, but Arum does not see the TV allegiances as an issue for ESPN star Fury.

He said: “If that was the fight we were gonna make, I don’t think Al would stand in the way because we would be offering [Ruiz] a big opportunity, for a nice payday.”

Joshua, 33, beat Jermaine Franklin, 29, in his comeback bout at the start of April and opened the door to facing Fury after.

It comes after Usyk, 36, was ordered into a WBA mandatory defence against Daniel Dubois, 25, with negotiations ongoing.

So it leaves Fury, 34, without an opponent for his summer return although a win for Joyce over Zhang sets up the Battle of Britain.

  • Defense
  • Combination
  • Rotation
  • Spares

Punching Techniques

There are seven types. Each punch has its own technique. Some punches require more strength than others. An example of this is an uppercut, which requires tremendous force. However, a straight punch is much more powerful and faster than other punches.

There are many combinations that can be used to punch. These are combinations made up of several punches that can be used together to achieve one goal. A combination can contain multiple parts. For example, a left hook followed by a right cross will cause damage to the opponent’s jaw.

Guard Techniques

A boxer protects himself by using his body. He does this by using his legs, arms, elbows, hands, knees and feet.

Legs

Boxers should use the legs to protect themselves against kicks. When he receives a kick, he raises his leg and moves away from the attacker. If the attack comes from the front, then he bends his knees to avoid being kicked on the side. If the attack comes from behind, however, he can stand straight up and block the kick by his foot.

Elbows

Elbow strikes are very powerful because they inflict great pain. An elbow strike may be delivered directly or in an indirect manner. Directly means that your opponent is hit with your forearm. However, indirectly means that your elbow strike is delivered with another part or your arm.

Hands

Boxers use their hands as a shield against incoming punches. To do so, they raise their fists above their head and move them towards the direction of the attack. Then, they touch the attacker’s hand.

Knees

To absorb the impact of a punch to the stomach, abdomen, or chest, boxers should bend their knees. Defense purposes are often served by knee strikes.

Feet

If he is being attacked, a boxer must take a step back and counter-attack. He can then gain distance from his opponent. Also, boxers must maintain their balance while delivering counter-attacks.

Stances

In order to box effectively, a boxer needs to establish a stance. His stance will determine how he defends. It determines where he will face his opponent and how he will position his body. Boxers have many stances to choose from. Here are some of the most common ones:

  • Low stance
  • High stance
  • Southpaw stance
  • Western stance

Moving your body

To win a fight, a fighter must move around the opponent. This involves changing position, speed and rhythm.

Rotation

To increase his punching power, a boxer rotates when he throws a punch. Depending on the type and size of punch, the speed at which the rotation takes place varies.

Combinations

The timing of each punch determines the effectiveness of a combination. A good combination starts with a strong punch and ends with a weak one.
