Tyson Fury will ‘STRUGGLE’ against Oleksandr Usyk if he fights a certain way, warns ex-coach Ben Davison

TYSON FURY has been warned by his ex-coach Ben Davison he will “STRUGGLE” against Oleksandr Usyk should he fight a certain way.

The pair of unbeaten rivals are in talks for a historic undisputed title decider this year, which is set to be pushed back till April.

Fury, 34, is the odds on favourite to emerge as the heavyweight division’s first four-belt undisputed champion.

But his old trainer Davison believes the longer the fight goes, the more it favours ex-cruiserweight king Usyk, 36.

He told Queensberry’s YouTube channel: “Personally, I think he will struggle if he tries to play the long game with Usyk.

“I think a massive strength of Tyson’s is his agility for a guy of that size, so when he’s against guys of that size it really shows out.

“However, against someone like Usyk those advantages will get taken away. Someone one-dimensional will struggle.

“Tyson is very versatile, very good at locking up, stepping to someone, he’s able to do that.

“He’s got a great engine, he’s got bundles of heart, extremely tough and does tuck up well. Good on the inside for a man of that size which is very rare.

“Can cut the ring off, so me personally, I think that’s how the fight will go for a Tyson victory.

“I think he’ll struggle if he looks to play the long game with Usyk, in my opinion.”

Davison helped bring Fury back from 28 STONE and a deep depression all the way to challenging for the world title again.

But following a disputed 2018 draw with Deontay Wilder, 37, Fury instead hired American Sugarhill Steward.

With Steward, he has twice stopped Wilder, knocked out Dillian Whyte, 34, and halted Derek Chisora, 38, in ten rounds.

Usyk, off the back of two wins over Anthony Joshua, 33, watched Fury dispatch of Chisora at Tottenham and the pair faced off after.

Talks for the two two unify their belts have been ongoing ever since and promoter Frank Warren provided an update.

He said on talkSPORT: “We’re expecting a couple of offers this week, but none of them have come through and then Tyson has to make his decision.

“I hope it’s going to happen at the end of March, early April, that’s where we’re looking at the moment.

“So, fingers crossed we get it over the line for that date, but it will definitely, definitely happen.”

Some punches require greater strength than others. An example of this is an uppercut, which requires tremendous force. A straight punch on the other side requires less power, but is more effective than other punches.

There are also various punching combinations. These are combinations of punches that work together to achieve a specific goal. One combination can have many parts. A combination may include multiple parts. For example, damage to the jaw of an opponent can be caused by a left hook and a right cross.

Guard Techniques

A boxer uses his body to protect himself against attacks. He does this by using his legs, arms, elbows, hands, knees and feet.

Legs

To defend against kicks, a boxer should use his legs. When he’s hit, he raises his right leg and runs away from the attacker. To avoid being kicked in the side, he bends down if the attacker attacks from the front. He will block the kick with his foot if the attack is coming from behind.

Elbows

Because they inflict pain, elbow strikes can be very effective. You can either deliver an elbow strike directly, or indirectly. Directly means that you hit your opponent with your forearm while indirectly means that you hit him with another part of your arm.

Hands

Boxers use their arms to stop incoming blows. Boxers use their hands to stop incoming punches. They raise their fists up above their heads and move towards the attack. The attacker’s fist is then in their face.

Knees

When receiving a blow to the stomach, abdomen or chest, a boxer should bend his knees to absorb the impact. For defense purposes, knee strikes are common.

Feet

A boxer should not be afraid to respond to an attack. This allows him to put distance between himself, his opponent, and the ring. A boxer must also maintain his balance when responding to an opponent’s counter-attack.

Stances

To box effectively, a boxer must establish a stance. How he defends his self will depend on how he stances. It is how he positions himself and where he faces the opponent. Boxers have many options for stances. Here are the most commonly used ones:

  • Low stance
  • High stance
  • Southpaw stance
  • Western stance

Moving your body

Rotation

A boxer will rotate his arm when he is throwing a punch. The rotation is done at different speeds depending on the type of punch.

Combinations

The timing of each individual punch affects the effectiveness or failure of a combination. A combination that works well starts with strong punches and ends with weak ones is a winning combination.
