UFC star Conor McGregor breaches boxing protocol during Anthony Joshua vs Robert Helenius fight card

Conor McGregor enters the ring before Anthony Joshua's fight

Conor McGregor, the popular UFC star, caused quite a stir at the recent Anthony Joshua vs Robert Helenius fight card. Despite being on a family holiday, McGregor made sure to be present at the O2 Arena, as his Irish Forged Stout was an official sponsor of the event. McGregor took a ringside seat to witness the action unfold.

A breach of protocol

However, McGregor unknowingly broke British Boxing Board of Control (BBBoC) protocol when he entered the ring. Only BBBoC licence holders are allowed inside the ring, a rule that McGregor was not aware of. Prior to Derek Chisora's controversial victory over Gerald Washington, McGregor confidently walked around the ring and even took a picture with promoter Eddie Hearn.

Show of admiration for Joshua

It's worth noting that McGregor had gifted Joshua a box of his Irish Forged Stout earlier in the week and had publicly praised the former champion on social media. In a tweet, McGregor referred to Joshua as the "definition of class, quality, and loyalty" and expressed his excitement to witness the boxer's performance ringside.

As McGregor's presence in the ring drew attention, it remains to be seen if any action will be taken by the BBBoC regarding this violation of protocol.
