VASILIY LOMACHENKO reminded the world of his brilliant brutal best with a merciful beating of Richard Commey.
The Ukraine legend dominated the former IBF world champion in their lightweight battle in New York, taking a unanimous points decision.
But only after flooring the brave Commey in round seven and pleading with his corner to throw in the towel and rescue him from a savaging.
When Commey’s corner refused to rescue their man after a left hook folded him, Loma took his foot off the gas and coasted to a decision win.
Lomachenko said: “I saw his situation and it was very hard for him,and that’s why I said, ‘hey, stop the fight.’
“He is a true warrior. He has a big heart and we continued and showed the people 12 great rounds.”
Loma, 33, is rebuilding his reputation after a shock points loss to Teofimo Lopez in October 2020 and handpicked Commey as a former opponent of Lopez.

The two-time Olympic champ failed to land the highlight reel stoppage Lopez achieved back in 2019, but totally dominated the 34-year-old Ghana warrior.
The judges called it 117-110, 119-108, 119-108, leaving Loma free to target an undisputed match with George Kambosos Jr after the Australian stunned Lopez in November to claim the IBF, WBA and WBO belts.
And on this performance, southpaw star Loma will have no fear of facing the 28-year-old in front of 80,000 of his own fans in a stadium Down Under.
Lomachenko said: “In this weight division we have a lot of great fighters. We have a lot of top fighters so we can organise a lot of great fights in the future.
“I will go anywhere I need to go to fight Kambosos because I need this chance, and if God gives me this chance I’ll take it.”
