Who is Tyson Fury’s father John?

Tyson Fury owes much of his success as a heavyweight boxer to one man – his father John.

John Fury, Head of the Famous Fury Family

John Fury, also known as "Gypsy John," was born in Tuam, Galway, Ireland, into a family with Irish Traveller heritage. He comes from a long line of boxers, which has had a profound influence on his children.

John Fury, the former professional boxer and bare-knuckle fighter, had a boxing career that spanned eight years. Throughout his career, he fought in 13 bouts, making his professional debut in 1987. Although he won several fights, he also faced losses and draws during his career.

The Fury Family Lineage

John Fury has six children, including the two-time heavyweight boxing world champion Tyson Fury, whom he named after the legendary Mike Tyson. His other children include professional boxer and reality star Tommy Fury, as well as Roman, Hughie, and Shane. Sadly, he also had a daughter named Ramona, who passed away shortly after birth.

John Fury's Time Behind Bars

In 2011, John Fury was found guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. This charge stemmed from an incident in 2010 where he gouged a man's eye out during a brawl at a car auction. He received an 11-year prison sentence. After serving nearly four years, Fury was released from prison in February 2015.
