Andrew Flintoff returns to cricket coaching after Top Gear crash

All smiles as Flintoff signs autographs for fans

Former England cricket star Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff has made his return to cricket coaching following his horrific accident on the set of Top Gear. The 45-year-old was seen at Cardiff's Sophia Gardens helping out the England team ahead of their one-day international against New Zealand. Despite his facial injuries and broken ribs, Flintoff appeared happy to be back in the England set-up, even taking the time to sign autographs and take selfies with fans.

Gradual return to cricket after nine months

Flintoff's appearance at Sophia Gardens marked his gradual return to cricket. The 2005 Ashes hero has been brought back into the England set-up in order to assist players and coaching staff ahead of the upcoming World Cup. Captain Jos Buttler expressed his delight in having Flintoff around the team, saying that he settles in well and is a valuable asset to the group.

No money sought for role

In a surprising move, Flintoff has not sought any monetary compensation for his coaching role this week, according to The Daily Mail. The former cricket star is said to be so eager to return to the sport that he is willing to contribute his expertise without payment.

Fans and colleagues welcome Flintoff's return

Flintoff's return to cricket has been met with warm wishes and praise from fans and colleagues alike. SunSport columnist Piers Morgan tweeted his support, stating that it was "brilliant" to see Flintoff back with the England team. In December, Flintoff suffered facial injuries and broken ribs in a near-fatal car accident while filming for Top Gear. The BBC has since apologized for the incident.
