AZEEM RAFIQ wants the BBC to send a message that they aim to stamp out racism by getting rid of Michael Vaughan.

Ex-Yorkshire bowler Rafiq, 30, has accused Vaughan of making a racist comment towards him in 2009.

The claim, which has been corroborated by England bowler Adil Rashid and Pakistan star Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, led the BBC to drop Vaughan from the Tuffers and Vaughan radio show.

But with the BBC still deciding Vaughan’s long-term fate, Rafiq has called on the organisation to sack the former England captain.

Rafiq told BBC Sport: “With people in denial there’s got to be a level of accountability there and it’s for their employers to send out a message — are they going to give a green light to racism or are they going to stamp it out?

“I’m disappointed in a lot of people’s denials. It may not mean a lot to them — I can live with that.

“But to try and completely deny it and make out that it’s all made up in my head is hurtful.”

Vaughan has twice denied the allegation he told a group of Asian Yorkshire players there are “too many of you lot” in the squad.

And he is said to be unhappy with the BBC’s decision to drop him from his show, pending further investigation.

Vaughan is one of a number of people Rafiq claims were involved in racially abusing him.

Ex-England star Alex Hales, David ‘Bumble’ Lloyd and Gary Ballance are three of nine individuals Rafiq has spoken about.

Earlier this week the former cricketer broke down in tears during a parliamentary hearing into the abuse – detailing Yorkshire CCC’s inhuman treatment over the death of his unborn child.
