ENGLANDS World Cup cricket heroes are to get gongs in the Queens New Year honours.
Skipper Eoin Morgan will be rewarded with a CBE after leading England to their first-ever World Cup win.
Victorious team-mates including Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler are also expected to receive honours in the Queens New Year list.
Morgan Englands all-time leading run-scorer in One Day Internationals was praised for his calm leadership throughout the World Cup.
And the 33-year-old Dublin-born captain said the nerve-shredding win over New Zealand in the final at Lords in July was the greatest game ever played.
In the final, Stokes, 28, and Buttler, 29, helped drag England towards the New Zealand total eventually tieing the score.
The pair then bludgeoned boundaries in the Super Over before Buttlers run-out of Martin Guptill secured the victory in front of the watching millions.
A string of players from the winning team are set to be named by The Queen for the 2020 New Year Honours list as were the Ashes heroes back in 2005.
A source said: The World Cup win was the sporting highlight of the year not just the summer.
Eoin captained the team to win a World Cup Final and only a handful of people have ever been able to say that.
Ben Stokes and Jos Buttlers final Super Over has gone down in sporting folklore and is already one of the most iconic English sporting moments.
Its only right that the joy and pride they brought to millions, not to mention the sheer professionalism and determination they showed amid such adversity, is rewarded with the highest possible honour.
Morgan previously played for Ireland for three years but qualified for England through his mother.
Stokes was named Man of the Match at Lords and PM-elect Boris Johnson joked that he would make him a duke.
Six weeks later there were calls for Stokes to be knighted after he smashed one of the greatest innings of all time in the Ashes.
With defeat almost inevitable, he hammered 135 not out to win the third test at Headingley including 11 fours and eight sixes.
The PM said afterwards: I thought it was one of the most extraordinary innings Ive ever seen. The shots I saw were absolutely incredible.
I think Ive already promised that Ben Stokes should get a Dukedom so I cant go any higher than that.
But clearly its not a matter for me but for some honours committee or other and Im sure they will take the appropriate decision in due course.
Gary Lineker tweeted after the game in August: Arise Sir @benstokes38. You absolute hero. Best test match ever. Unbelievable!
Sports Minister Nigel Adams posted: My nerves are shattered. Arise Sir Ben Stokes.
Fans also changed a road sign at Stokes Lane to Sir Ben Stokes Lane in Tewkesbury, Gloucs.
Kiwi-born Stokes scooped the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award earlier this month.
He had been suspended from international cricket after being charged over a fight outside a nightclub in September 2017.
But he returned after he was cleared by a jury at Bristol crown court in August last year.
