Former Australian Cricket Star Stuart MacGill Charged in Alleged Cocaine Supply Plot

Arrested in Sydney

Former Australian cricket star Stuart MacGill was arrested in Sydney on Tuesday and is facing charges for his alleged role in a cocaine supply plot. The 52-year-old, once ranked the second-best bowler in the world, was taken into custody as part of an ongoing police investigation.

Previous Kidnapping Allegation

MacGill made headlines in 2021 when he claimed that he was kidnapped and beaten two years ago. According to his account, he was forced into a car in the Sydney suburb of Cremorne, taken to a remote location where he was assaulted, and then threatened at gunpoint before being released. At the time, he maintained his innocence and stated that he had done nothing wrong. The police categorized him as a victim in the alleged incident.

New Charges

Following a two-year probe, the police have decided to charge MacGill with participating in the supply of a large commercial quantity of a prohibited drug. Local reports have indicated that the alleged drug deal involved over £160,000 worth of cocaine. MacGill is yet to enter a plea.

Return to Court

MacGill has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court again on October 26. His then-partner's brother and five other individuals have also been charged in connection with the alleged kidnapping incident.

Ashes Hero

MacGill played for the Australian cricket team from 1998 to 2008 and was known for his exceptional performance in the 1998/99 Ashes series, where he emerged as the top wicket-taker with 27 dismissals.
