PREPARE to be hit for six by Kevin Pietersen’s incredible South African safari lodge.
The England cricket legend, who swapped batting in favour of saving South Africa’s dwindling rhino population as a conservationist, has set up his own luxury getaway on the beautiful banks of the Sabie River called the Umganu Lodge.
Costing a punter £915-per-night to stay, it offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience in the Greater Kruger National Park.
Featuring just five lodges, only 12 guests can stay at one time to make your trip as personal as possible.
And there’s even a chance to see wild animals including rhinos and elephants meeting at the river to grab a drink.
THE ROOMS
Every room comes with a panoramic viewing deck, which means you won’t miss any of the wildlife around you.
They are tastefully decorated with different themes, including elephant, lion, rhino, leopard, and buffalo and the floors are polished cement.
The rooms come with all the usual mod-cons, air-conditioning, satellite TV, WiFi and there’s cooking utensils inside each lodge.
Better still, there are telescopes, so you can gaze at the stars when night falls too, once you’ve enjoyed the wildlife.
Private bathrooms feature a tub that also allows views of passing elephants or rhinos.
THINGS TO DO
The Umganu Lodge boasts both private and public pools that you can take a dip in and cool down from the sun-soaked bush.
There’s also a sunken boma and braai area, where you can keep warm at night and enjoy a roaring fire.
And there are a number of other activities outside of the lodge that are on offer too.
Open vehicle safaris can be booked through the lodge, taking a drive through Kruger National Park and getting a more up close and personal sight of all the wild animals.
A few rounds at the nearby Leopard Creek, an exclusive top 100 golf course found on the edge of the crocodile river, is also worth doing.
And why not go zip-lining across the Sabie River and Kruger National Park too, if you’re feeling as daring as Pietersen used to in the crease.
