JOE ROOT and Jonny Bairstow guided England to their highest-ever Test run chase – and they did it at a canter.
The Yorkshire duo registered another century each to overhaul India’s target of 378 runs to win with ease.
The pair came together with England 109-3, but a partnership between the pair worth 269 saw England register a fourth consecutive Test win in stunning style.
Root was first to reach his ton – the 28th Test century of his incredible career.
It took a little while longer for Bairstow to get to the landmark figure, with his 12th Test century coming off just 138 balls.
And in doing so he recorded a FOURTH hundred in just five innings.
But it was Root who hit the winning runs at Edgbaston, with a single to the point boundary securing a famous seven-wicket victory.
