TWO of England’s Euro 2020 stars were sent off last time they played Denmark – as the Three Lions suffered a shock defeat at Wembley.

Gareth Southgate will be desperate there is no repeat of October 2020’s Nations League result on Wednesday.

This is how England lined up last time they faced Denmark in October
Harry Maguire started in a back three but lasted just 30 minutes before his red card

The Three Lions take on the Danes at Wembley in the semi-final.

But their previous clash did not go according to plan.

Harry Maguire picked up a yellow card inside five minutes for a late challenge.

And then on 30 minutes, he overstretched after a heavy touch and earned a second yellow to get sent off.

England started with a back three but Maguire’s early dismissal meant left wing-back Ainsley Maitland-Niles was sacrificed for Tyrone Mings.

Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips – who have shone together at the Euros this summer – partnered each other in midfield with Reece James and Maitland-Niles offering width.

Harry Kane led the line, supported by Mason Mount and Marcus Rashford.

A defensive mix-up including Conor Coady, Kyle Walker and Jordan Pickford saw Denmark awarded a controversial penalty which Christian Eriksen slammed home on his 100th cap.

Leicester and Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel produced a fine display at the other end and made one point-blank save to deny Mount.

And England could find no way back as they fell to the 1-0 defeat.

Then after the full-time whistle, James also saw red for comments made to the referee to compound a miserable night at Wembley.

Of the 11 that started that game, seven are expected to retain their places this week for the crunch clash at the home of football.

Pickford is set to be protected by a back four of Walker, John Stones, Maguire and Luke Shaw.

Rice and Phillips look likely to continue in midfield with Mount flanked by fit-again Bukayo Saka and goal-machine Raheem Sterling supporting captain Kane up top.

Jadon Sancho, Jordan Henderson and Dominic Calvert-Lewin all came off the bench in October and may well do the same again this week.

Jack Grealish was an unused sub – just as he was on Saturday against Ukraine – but will be desperate to get his chance to impress once again.

Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham and Kieran Trippier could all be involved as well with England aiming to reach their first major final since 1966.
