Scotland would NOT get day off if England given bank holiday for Euro 2020 final win

SCOTS reportedly won’t get a day off if England emerge victorious over Italy on Sunday – despite secret plans to grant a national bank holiday.

Boris Johnson was yesterday tight-lipped on whether Brits will get a day away from work if Southgate’s Lions claim victory this weekend.

Scots won’t get a day off if England wins the Euros – despite plans for a national bank holiday, it’s reported

The news will come as a further blow to the Tartan Army after their defeat to Croatia

But it’s understood the PM is already drawing up plans for a day’s hol in August, when lockdown has finally fully lifted.

Bank holidays need a royal proclamation – and officials are looking to see if it can be issued in time for the summer.

Meanwhile, 300,000 fans have signed a petition calling for an emergency break from the office on Monday in the event England lifts the cup.

However, Scots fans – many of whom stayed in London after the England vs Scotland clash to clear away rubbish from celebrations – are likely to go without, no matter when the break is, the Times reports.

That’s because across the rest of the UK, bank holidays are given out by Acts of Parliament – while in Scotland, the Chamber of Commerce decides.

The two countries share just Christmas and New Year as public holidays.

It’ll come as a blow to the Tartan Army, who were devastated when their team lost 3-1 against Croatia, finishing at the bottom of Group D.

And even if the Lions lift the cup, Scotland won’t get a day off – because the system for bank holidays is different north of the border

England and Scotland share just two national holidays – Christmas and New Year

So far, the PM has refused to commit to a day off.

He said: “I think that would be tempting fate – let’s see.”

But the Sun has learned plans are already in the works.

And Mr Johnson urged bosses to be soft on workers who turn up late nursing monster hangovers next week.

Around eight million lionhearts have booked the day off to recover from monster hangovers after Sunday night’s do-or-die decider against Italy.

Fan fever led to around one in four of the nation’s 32m workers to schedule annual leave on Monday – double the number on normal Mondays in July.

And plenty of bosses will be lenient with their staff, while some schools say kids can come in late without punishment.

HR experts and unions yesterday urged bosses to let staff take Monday off to avoid clashes with workers who will phone in sick if denied leave.

TUC boss Frances O’Grady said: “Bosses should talk to staff and try to let people who want to watch games do so — either at work, or at home — and claim back working time afterwards.”

Elsewhere, Chancellor Rishi Sunak predicted a win will fuel a £12billion euphoric spending splurge.

England are now favourites amid a betting spree at bookies.

And Gareth Southgate and co will be hoping history doesn’t repeat itself as the country gears up for our biggest game for 55 years.

England have won just ONE major tournament – the stunning 4-2 victory against West Germany to win the 1966 World Cup.

Now captain Harry Kane has the chance to lead his troops into the record books in front of 60,000 screaming fans at Wembley Stadium.

Hopes are high after England laid the semi-final curse to rest with a fantastic 2-1 victory over Denmark on Wednesday night at Wembley.

It’ll be a nail-biting clash – and the Lions have never beaten Italy in a major tournament.

The last time they faced each other was at the 2014 World Cup, with the Italians winning 2-1.
