Euro 2020

Team news, injury updates, latest odds for Slovakia vs Spain as rivals battle to qualify from Group E

SPAIN will be looking to notch their first win of the tournament and avoid the threat of an early Euros exit.

Should Poland overcome Sweden, Luis Enrique’s men could find themselves out of a contest their country has won on three occasions including a triumph in 2012.

A win for Alvaro Morata and his team-mates would guarantee Spain a place in the Euros’ last 16

But Slovakia will be eager to register their second victory in the tournament with the Estadio de La Cartuja clash to be aired on ITV at 5pm on Wednesday.

However  Stefan Tarkovic’s men could reach the last-16 if they win, or secure a draw if Sweden avoid losing.

What’s the form?

Spain have endured a below par start to the Euros by their standards with the team missing gilt-edged opportunities to net a winner against Poland.

And Enrique’s players were held to a 0-0 draw by Sweden despite having 17 shots on target following a solid defensive display by their opponents.

Meanwhile Slovakia have picked up three points from their first two games following an impressive 2-1 win against a 10-man Poland side.

But they suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Janne Andersson’s Swedish side with the result being their first international defeat since November 2020.

 Who’s in and who’s out?

There are growing calls from Spanish press for Cesar Azpilicueta to start and lead Spain’s defence.

The return of the Chelsea ace could see Marcus Llorente return to a role further forward with the attacker currently playing at right-back.

And midfield dynamo Sergio Busquets could be set to make a much needed return after missing Spain’s first two games due to a positive Covid-19 test.

The Barcelona stalwart’s return could see Rodri drop to the bench after the player received a yellow card against Poland.

Watch out for….

Manchester City target Ferran Torres making a return to Spain’s starting line-up following Gerard Moreno’s missed penalty against Poland last time out.

However reports claim Enrique could keep Moreno in his side with the Villarreal forward having provided more goal assists – 16 in 14 games – than any LaLiga player since the start of this year.

Meanwhile Ondrej Duda is expected to keep his spot in Slovakia’s attacking line-up despite picking up a booking in his side’s second game.

And defender Ivan Shranz is reportedly likely to miss the clash with Spain through injury.

If the game is rubbish

Alice Campello, 26, will be among those hoping Spain will reach the Euros knockout stages.

The Italian fashion designer and model is married to striker Alvaro Morata.

The couple have three children but also hope to adopt.

Morata, 28, is reported to have proposed to Campello during a magic show.
