AC MILAN are lining up a fresh £35million swoop for Arsenal star Lucas Torreira after they failed in their bid to bring him back to Italy last summer.
The Uruguayan midfielder, 24, was on the radar of the Serie A giants last summer but failed to move – instead staying at the Gunners.
But Torreira struggled to break into the starting XI with any real consistency under Unai Emery.
The change in situation even led the player’s agent to reveal he was “no longer at ease” at Arsenal.
In November, agent Pablo Bentancur said: “I must say the change of role has hurt him. He is no longer at ease and we hope that things can change.”
Fast forward a few months and the former Sampdoria ace has looked close to his best now under the leadership of Mikel Arteta.
The combative centre-mid had already played nine times in 2020 before the season was called to a halt.
But AC Milan are still confident in landing their man at the second attempt.
Italian outlet Corriere hello Sport even suggest Torreira is keen to head back to Italy with his agent “sending positive signals” to Milan chiefs.
Torreira is still in London recovering from a broken ankle, after he sustained the injury during the FA Cup win over Portsmouth.
The 24-year-old was hoping to fly to his family home in Fray Bentos, Uruguay while recovering from the nasty injury.
But those plans were put on hold after his flight from London was cancelled and he was forced into self-isolation by boss Arteta’s coronavirus diagnosis.
Torreira will now turn his attention to getting fit, with his “season-ending injury” perhaps not actually the end of his season.
Due to coronavirus, the season is currently on hold and could yet be finished this summer, by which time Torreira could be fully fit and raring to go.
