Alexis Sanchez ‘wants transfer to Universidad de Chile’ after Man Utd hell, claims club chief

MANCHESTER UNITED flop Alexis Sanchez wants to move to his native Chile in order to finish his career, it has been claimed.

The striker is currently on loan at Inter Milan but his season in Italy has been hampered by injury.

Former Gunners ace Sanchez has managed just one goal in 15 appearances for Antonio Conte‘s Inter side and is unlikely to have done enough to convince club bosses he is worthy of a permanent deal.

Instead of a return to Old Trafford, his next destination could be a move to South America.

Sanchez has not played his club football in Chile since he left Cobreloa in 2006, but that could be about to change, according to the club president of Universidad de Chile.

Jose Luis Navarrete told DirecTV via Sempreinter: “I spoke with Alexis Sanchez and he is a fan of Universidad de Chile.

“He wants to retire by playing for the club. I would like to have Marcelo Díaz, Isla, Edu Vargas, Alexis Sanchez, all of them, but you have to be realistic.

“The economic scenario is not brilliant, it will depend on how much they are willing to give up to come to Universidad de Chile.”

Sanchez is currently thought to be on hefty wages at United – estimated to be in the region of £505,000 a week – and would have to take a significant pay cut to facilitate a move home.

Rumours are rife about where the Chilean will be playing his football next season with Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thought to be keen to offload the star.

He could be set to stay in Italy – where he has been showing off his Rocky Balboa-style fitness sessions in lockdown – although not with current loan side Inter.

Reports suggest Serie A rivals Roma could land the former Barcelona forward on a loan deal courtesy of the good working relationship between the clubs.
