Argentinian World Cup Winner Set for Shock Premier League Transfer

Nottingham Forest is said to be on the verge of signing Gonzalo Montiel, the penalty-taking hero of Argentina's World Cup victory, in a surprising move to the Premier League. The Sevilla right-back is set to undergo a medical examination on Monday.

From World Cup Hero to English Land

Gonzalo Montiel, who famously scored the winning penalty for Argentina in the World Cup final against France, could soon be making his way to England. After his triumph on the international stage, Montiel may now have the opportunity to play in the Premier League for the first time.

Sealing the Deal

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, personal terms are currently being finalized before Montiel's proposed £9.4 million transfer deal. If all goes well, the 26-year-old player could be joining Nottingham Forest in the near future.

The Late Villain Turned Hero

During the World Cup final in Qatar last December, Montiel conceded a penalty in the 118th minute, allowing Kylian Mbappe to complete his hat-trick and forcing a 3-3 draw. However, Montiel redeemed himself by converting the final spot-kick, clinching a 4-2 victory for Argentina.

Europa League Success

Montiel replicated his penalty heroics during Sevilla's Europa League triumph against Roma three months ago. After a 1-1 draw in regular time, he fired home the winning penalty in a 4-1 shootout victory for his team.

Nottingham Forest's Fourth Signing

If the transfer goes through, Montiel will be Nottingham Forest's fourth signing of the summer transfer window. The club has already secured the services of wingers Anthony Elanga from Manchester United and Ola Aina from Torino. Additionally, USA international Matt Turner has joined the team as their new No. 1.

Manager's Perspective

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper has been relatively tight-lipped about potential transfers, stating that he prefers to speak out "once something is done permanently." However, he expressed his enthusiasm for bringing in new players, acknowledging the challenging market conditions and the need to maintain faith in the current squad.
