Arsenal and Liverpool involved in FA investigation following heated bust-up between Jordan Henderson and Gabriel

The incident occurred after the Gunners were awarded a penalty with around 15 minutes remaining.

Jordan Henderson and Gabriel were at the centre of a heated row

Michael Oliver spoke to Jurgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta immediately after the incident

Reds skipper Jordan Henderson and Arsenal defender Gabriel were at the centre of the bust-up, with Granit Xhaka also squaring up to Henderson and grabbing his shirt.

It is believed referee Michael Oliver alerted rivals managers Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp to comments which were made between players in the closing minutes of the game.

The two managers reportedly spoke with the referee after the match too.

Oliver reported the incident to the FA after the game and a review will be launched into the matter.

An FA spokesperson said: “We are aware of an incident that took place during the match between Arsenal and Liverpool.

“We are in dialogue with the match officials and will review the details of the incident.”

Bukayo Saka kept his cool throughout the saga by slotting home the penalty to win the game for his side.

The winger was unaware of what was going on as he waited to take his spot-kick and said after the match that he thought it may have been a ploy by Liverpool players to distract him.

“I don’t know what was going on with the fighting, if they were trying to get in my head, but I knew what I was going to do in my mind, and stuck with it.”
