Arsenal boost as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang reveals he is ‘happy’ at club amid contract extension talks

PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG has confirmed he is “happy” at Arsenal amid talks over extending his contract.

The Gunners striker, 30, will have just one year remaining on his contract at the end of the current season.

Aubameyang insists he is happy at Arsenal despite being linked with a move away

He has been linked with a move to Barcelona and Inter and other reports have claimed Arsenal are looking at re-signing PSV star Donyell Malen for £48million as his possible replacement.

But the Gabon forward has confirmed he is content in North London having been a fan of the club for a long time.

He told the Premier League: “I love the fans here and when I was younger I used to watch Arsenal because they had always great players, and yeah won trophies as well.

“So I think it’s really a pleasure to be here. I’m really happy. I think that’s the feeling.”

Aubameyang has not played in the Champions League since moving to the Emirates in January 2018.

He is yet to lift silverware with Mikel Arteta’s side either, and at 30 some think he should move elsewhere with his career winding down.

Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole told BT Sport recently: “If I’m Aubameyang, I’d be looking out the door because he’s a player that needs to be playing at the very, very top level.

“He needs to be playing in the Champions League.

“He’s not played enough years in the Champions League to cement himself as a top, top player, which is what he actually is.

“His stats and numbers add up with anyone.”

Talks over Auba’s new deal are said to have stalled over his reported £300,000-a-week wage demands.

He currently earns around £200,000-a-week and the quibble over money is believed to have led to the impasse.
