Arsenal captain Aubameyang has ‘lost his superpower’ and ‘past his best’, slams Jamie Redknapp after loss to Man City

PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG has ‘lost his superpower’ and is ‘past his best’, slammed Jamie Redknapp.

The Sky Sports pundit laid into the Arsenal captain following the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was largely anonymous against Manchester City on Sunday

Aubameyang struggled to have any impact on the game at the Emirates and the ex-Spurs midfielder was quick to criticise.

Redknapp said on Super Sunday: “Aubameyang’s past his best. He could have moments, he’s going to get his hat-tricks.

“When I watch him sometimes it’s like he’s lost his superpower.

“You used to see him run past people when he first came into the Premier League, I’ve seen him run past people at Dortmund.

“I’m seeing now a player who looks like he’s going to get bullied every occasion. And he’s your leading light!

“The likes of (Bukayo) Saka and (Emile) Smith Rowe, they’re the ones leading the way – and it’s the other players I feel have got to step up more.”

Raheem Sterling gave Pep Guardiola’s side the perfect start by heading in with 80 seconds played – and that proved to be the only goal.

Aubameyang, however, did not muster a single shot in the match nor create any chances.

The Gabon forward – who signed a £350,000-a-week contract in September – completed just nine passes and won two of his six duels.

He won possession once and lost it eight times on a difficult afternoon for Arsenal, three days after acknowledging his poor display against Benfica.

Sunday’s City performance came just a week after scoring a hat-trick past Leeds.

However, those three account for half of his Premier League goals since scoring the winner at Old Trafford on November 1.

Overall he has 11 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions this season – by the same stage last term he had 15 goals.

Aubameyang also missed three matches at the end of January to be with his ill mother.
