Arsenal complete £7.5m transfer paperwork for Matt Turner from New England Revolution with keeper to arrive in summer

ARSENAL have completed the paperwork for Matt Turner’s £7.5million transfer from MLS side New England Revolution.

And the American goalkeeper will link up with his new Gunners team-mates in the summer.

Matt Turner will join Arsenal in the summer after the paperwork over his £7.5m transfer

Although fees and contracts are sorted, he still needs to go through a medical and receive his work permit before he can train or play.

The £7.5m fee, which includes add-ons, was agreed between the two clubs during the January transfer window.

However, they decided Turner would remain in the MLS for the second half of the English 2021-22 campaign.

Aaron Ramsdale has overtaken Bernd Leno in the pecking order at the Emirates.

The German, therefore, is expected to leave when the transfer window reopens.

He could join mega-rich Newcastle if the Toon avoid the drop.

Turner, 27, joined New England Revolution from Jersey Express in 2016.

And he has become a key player for the USA national team, named goalkeeper of the tournament during their triumph at the Concacaf Gold Cup in August.

Turner helped win over plenty of Arsenal fans before he has even arrived in England by signing a Gunners shirt while on international duty.

USA head coach Gregg Berhalter hailed Turner’s ‘amazing story’ ahead of the move to North London.

And he reckons his man can challenge Ramsdale for the No1 spot under Mikel Arteta.

Berhalter said: “It’s just an amazing story and it’s all down to him, his work ethic, his belief in himself and his never-give-up attitude.

“It’s a great story and Matt is a great guy, a great team-mate and we’re lucky to have him.

“He looked like a player that’s going to Arsenal, for sure.”
