Arsenal fans couldn't help but laugh as Jamie Carragher shared a rather polarizing reason for why their beloved club will never win the league. The former Liverpool legend pointed the finger at one particular player as the downfall of Arsenal's title ambitions.
Arsenal's Title Hopes Dashed?
During an interview with CBS Sports, Carragher boldly stated, "Arsenal will NEVER win the league with [Aaron] Ramsdale in goal, no chance."
Doubts over Ramsdale's Ability
Following Mikel Arteta's decision to replace Aaron Ramsdale with David Raya for Arsenal's last two games, Carragher's comments gained traction. With Raya in the goal, Arsenal managed to secure two clean sheets in a 1-0 victory against Everton and a dominant 4-0 win over PSV at the Emirates Stadium.
Fans Rush to Defend Ramsdale
Arsenal fans were far from pleased with Carragher's statement and quickly rallied to defend their goalkeeper, who boasts 83 appearances and 30 clean sheets for the club. One fan argued, "Even if Raya turns out to be the better keeper, that is complete nonsense."
Another fan chimed in, saying, "He arguably kept us in the title race last season. There was no need for this."
Carragher's Liverpool Legacy
Some fans couldn't help but mock Carragher's comments, reminding him of his 17-year stint at Liverpool where he made 737 appearances but failed to lift the Premier League trophy. One fan sarcastically wrote, "I read Jamie Carragher win the league and just burst into the biggest fit of uncontrollable laughter LOOOOOL."
Another fan added, "Of course Jamie Carragher would know what it takes to NOT win the league."
The Battle Between Raya and Ramsdale
Raya joined Arsenal on a season-long loan from Brentford, with the option for a permanent move. As the team prepares for a showdown against rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, it remains to be seen whether Arteta will stick with Raya or revert to Ramsdale.
However, given the Spanish gaffer's recent decision to start Raya in the last two games, it appears he may be leaning towards his new arrival.
