Arsenal fans go into meltdown as shambolic David Luiz is handed new contract and ‘lose last additional hope’

ARSENAL fans have vented their fury at the club on social media for offering David Luiz a new one-year at the Emirates.

The Brazilian centre-back was set to become a free agent at the end of the club, but the Gunners announced on Wednesday morning that he has committed his future at the Emirates until 2021.

Arsenal have handed David Luiz a new one-year deal at the club

Luiz has endured a frustrating season in North London since joining from Chelsea last summer, with the 33-year-old plagued by inconsistent performances.

His nightmare display against Manchester City last week left fans hoping that would be his last outing for the club after he have away two goals as well as being shown a red card.

But their worst fears were confirmed when they woke up this morning as Arsenal confirmed he will be at the club for another 12 months.

Commenting on the news, one supporter tweeted: “My day is ruined and I woke up no more than 30 minutes ago.”

Another posted a meme, which read: “Man who thought he’d lost all hope loses last additional bit of hope he didn’t even know he still had.”

A third added: “Wow! I have literally have nothing to say. You’re a bigger pandemic to Arsenal fans than COVID-19.”

One dissatisfied supporter quipped: “Damn it Arsenal you just can’t let me be happy for one day.”

Replying to the news, a fan took a screenshot of Arsenal’s promotional video for the new home shirt last summer, with the caption reading: “You know as an Arsenal fan, it’s the hope that kills you.”

Another simply stated: “Convinced my club hates me.”

As well as Luiz, Arsenal announced that Pablo Mari has joined the club on a permanent deal, with Cedric Soares also penning a long-term contract.

And Spanish midfielder Dani Ceballos has agreed a short-term deal until the end of the season where he will go back to Real Madrid once his loan spell comes to an end.
