And it is thought Anderlecht’s Albert Sambi Lokonga, 21, is also holding out for a bid from Mikel Arteta’s side amid reports of the midfield starlet agreeing personal terms with the Prem giants.

However the Gunners, who finished eighth after a disappointing season last term, are reported to have had a £13million bid for Lokonga declined this month.

But it is believed club officials are expected to return with an improved offer.

Tavares, 21, made his senior debut for Benfica in their 5-0 thrashing of Sporting Lisbon in the Supertaca Candido de Oliviera in 2019.

The Lisbon-born defender, who moved from Casa Pia to the club in 2015, played in a back-up full-back role for the side last term

And he registered three assists in 25 appearances across all competitions.

The Daily Express claims Benfica would be open to accepting a £14.5million for the player with the Gunners thought to see the starlet as a potential back-up to Kieran Tierney.

This month SunSport reported the Scotland star signed a new FIVE-YEAR contract with the Gunners worth a £110,000-a-week

Albert Sambi Lokonga is rumoured to be keen on a move from Anderlecht to Arsenal

The former Celtic star has established himself as Arteta’s number one left-back playing 62 times for the Emirates side despite being hampered by injuries.

It is thought Arsenal’s technical director Edu may need to fend off interest in Tavares from Lazio and Napoli should he wish to seal a summer deal for the starlet.

The youngster also attracted interest from Burnley and Newcastle in March with the Magpies reportedly considering a £13million summer swoop.
