Arsenal have committed second fewest fouls in Premier League since Arteta took over… despite MOST red cards

ARSENAL have received the MOST red cards in the Premier League since Mikel Arteta took over – despite committing the second fewest fouls.

Since Arteta’s first game in charge on Boxing Day 2019 against Bournemouth, the Gunners have seen red 12 times from 785 fouls.

Arsenal averaged a red card every 65.4 fouls – way more often than any other club
Martinelli was the latest Gunners star to receive a red card

That means Arsenal average a red card every 65.4 fouls – around 50 per cent more frequently than second-placed Bournemouth (98.5 fouls per red).

Burnley, on the other hand, have been reasonably lucky in the red card department.

The Clarets have committed 804 fouls since Boxing Day 2019 and haven’t received a single red card.

You do, however, have to take into account the severity of the incident.

Arsenal are also averaging a card every 5.73 fouls.

And boss Arteta has admitted he has ‘run out of ideas’ on how to stop his side from seeing red so often.

Gabriel Martinelli was the latest Gunners star to see red in Arsenal’s narrow win over Wolves.

The Brazilian received two yellow cards in short succession in the second half, putting Arsenal’s lead in jeopardy.

Luckily for Martinelli, Arsenal held on to pick up three value points.

But Arteta admitted to BT Sport: “I’ve run out of ideas I think.

“Wolves threw seven players up front and it was difficult to maintain a clean sheet but we defended the box extremely well.

“The character, how we dug in, the spirit we showed, I’m really proud of the boys. There was togetherness and unity.

“We need to play with 11 players in the last 16 games and that is key. To win games with 10 men is very unlikely.”
