Arsenal in major coaching shake-up despite title challenge as key man leaves Mikel Arteta’s team

ARSENAL’S coaching staff have had a major shake-up despite their title challenge with a key man leaving Mikel Arteta’s team.

Changes have been made to the Arsenal boss’ backroom staff ahead of the start of next season.

Mikel Arteta’s backroom team has had a shake-up ahead of next season

Assistant manager Steve Round has left the Gunners after three-and-a-half years with the club.

Round has departed by mutual consent, having arrived following Arteta’s appointment in December 2019.

His exit was confirmed in a statement from the club in which sporting director Edu thanked him for his services.

“As preparations for the new men’s season get underway we can confirm Steve Round has left the club by mutual agreement,” explained Edu.

“Steve joined the club as part of our new coaching staff in December 2019 when Mikel started his role as Head Coach.

“During his time with us, Steve played an integral role working with our men’s first team players and helping the significant progress which we have made in recent seasons.

“We thank Steve for his contribution to Arsenal Football Club and wish him and his family all the best of health and happiness.”

It is currently unknown whether a direct replacement will be brought into the club.

Arteta will continue to be supported by Albert Stuivenberg, Miguel Molina and Carlos Cuesta.

Round’s departure comes after Arsenal achieved their highest league finish since 2016.

The Gunners had a NINE-POINT lead in the title race before a horror run of form saw Manchester City win the title before the final game.

Round had previously worked with Arteta as David Moyes’ assistant at Everton and has also held roles with Aston Villa, Derby County and Manchester United in the last 10 years.
