Arsenal in three-way Cody Gakpo transfer battle with Man City and Liverpool with PSV winger free-scoring this season

ARSENAL are reportedly in competition with Manchester City and Liverpool in the race to prise PSV forward Cody Gakpo away from Holland.

Mikel Arteta is desperate to bolster his attack this month with the Gunners boasting more red cards than goals in 2022 from their five games this year.

PSV forward is reportedly being tracked by Arsenal following his impressive season so far

The North London side have found the back of the net just once since the turn of the year, with the club failing to score in their last four matches in all competitions.

And with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang facing an uncertain future at the Emirates, Arsenal know they must bring in a new forward to stand any chance of finishing in the top four.

Arsenal were keen on landing Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina, but the player is set to join Juventus instead.

They were then linked with making a move for either Real Sociedad star Alexander Isak or Everton’s towering centre-forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

But now Foot Mercato have thrown another name into the mix in PSV’s prolific winger Gakpo.

The French news outlet claims that Arsenal are eyeing up a swoop to sign him before the winter transfer window slams shut.

Though they have also declared that Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola are both keeping a watchful eye over the player.

However that hasn’t stopped Arsenal from holding an interest, with it said they will look to nab him should Aubameyang depart.

The Gabon international has reportedly offered himself to Barcelona, though boss Xavi prefers a move for Alvaro Morata over the FA Cup 2020 winner.

Gakpo, who is valued at around £25million, has chipped in with ten goals and 11 assists in 28 games in all competitions this term.

The four-cap Dutch international recently insisted he was going to extend his stay at PSV, but admitted he is being chased by a number of clubs.

He said: “It looks like I’m going to renew my contract.

“The clubs that want something are also known to me, I’ve had conversations about that with my agent.

“Very interesting clubs have been added, but we have to look at what the first step is.”
