Arsenal staff expect Emery to be sacked as Gunners set sights on Nuno after impressing at Wolves

UNDER FIRE Arsenal boss Unai Emery is reportedly on the verge of being sacked – with Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo a leading contender to replace him.

Emery has overseen a dismal run – with the Gunners having failed to win any of their last five games in the Premier League.

Nuno has emerged as a leading contender to replace Unai Emery at Arsenal

The tepid football on show at the Emirates, coupled with poor results, has seen Emery feel the wrath of the beleaguered Gunners home support in recent weeks.

And Goal report that Gunners staff members believe it is a case of “when”, not “if” the Spaniard is relieved of his duties.

One source told them: “Its about results and we are not getting them, it just feels like a matter of time.

“Its not like the club is on its knees or anything. The mood is still pretty good, but you are now just waiting to be told the news.

Arsenal could target Wolves manager Nuno to take over in the Emirates hotseat.

The Portuguese has impressed head of football Raul Sanllehi with the remarkable job he has done in his two-and-a-half years at Molineux – taking them from Championship also-rans to European football.

And the Mail claim that Sanllehi has a “long-standing relationship” with Nuno’s representative – super-agent Jorge Mendes.

Prising the 45-year-old away from Wolves mid-season could be tricky however.

This could lead to the Gunners turning to highly-rated first-team coach and club legend Freddie Ljungberg until the end of the season.

The Swede was promoted to the first-team setup this season, after impressing with the under-23s last season.

His coaching has earned rave reviews from the likes of Bukayo Saka.

Arsenal have also been linked to Mauricio Pochettino and Massimiliano Allegri.

But Pochettino has previously stated to manage Arsenal would be “impossible”, while Allegri would rather not take a job until the end of the season.
