Arsenal stars mercilessly mock Emery with good ebening impressions after boss catchphrase becomes internet meme

ARSENAL may be struggling on the pitch but have at least found something to joke about off it – Unai Emery’s comical “good ebening” catchphrase.

Reports suggest the Gunners‘ young players in particular have become “merciless” in their mocking of the Spanish coach.

The coach was something of a squad morale issue on his hands

Fans online have leapt onto how he begins each press conference with the phrase, a polite but slightly broken use of the English language.

For some it is endearing but others see it as an example of Emery‘s genuine struggles with communication.

The Independent describe the stars’ jokes at their boss’ expense as “far more cynical” than the Twitter memes that have popped up since his 2018 arrival.

Emery was initially a popular choice to succeed Arsene Wenger and strung together a 22-game unbeaten run early on in his tenure.

But the club’s failure to make the top-four or win the Europa League was a sign of what was to come.

Defeat at Sheffield United last month was followed by Crystal Palace coming back from two goals down to earn a draw at the Emirates.

And, on Wednesday, Liverpool knocked Arsenal out of the Carabao Cup on penalties in a mad 5-5 draw.

That game encapsulated fans’ concerns and many now want the ex-Sevilla coach gone.

Next up are Wolves at home, another winnable game that comes with several key subplots.

Mesut Ozil starred at Anfield before being, perhaps prematurely, substituted while Granit Xhaka sat out the trip following his outburst against Palace.

This report highlights issues within the dressing room regarding Emery’s handling of his captain but the most telling moment will be whether he starts him for Saturday’s 3pm kick-off.
