Arsenal suffer transfer blow as Dayot Upamecano’s agent casts doubt on big-money summer move from Leipzig

ARSENAL have suffered a blow as Dayot Upamecano’s agent revealed he thinks a big-money summer transfer move for his client could be impossible.

The 21-year-old has shone in the Bundesliga with a series of impressive displays at the heart of RB Leipzig’s defence.

The agent of Dayot Upamecano has cast doubt on a potential move to Arsenal this summer

The Gunners failed with a £55million bid to try and bring him to the Premier League last summer but still remain keen on signing him.

However it now seems Arsenal will have to look elsewhere for a new centre-half, according to the French Under-21 international’s representative.

And it all comes down to the financial impact caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

His agent Volker Struth told German outlet Sport 1:”I don’t believe large transfers will take place this summer.

“And I think Upamecano is a player who will demand a large fee.

“So the statement has already been made.”

Upamecano has already admitted he will sit down with Leipzig to discuss his future at the end of the season.

He told Foot Mercato: “I feel very good at RB Leipzig. I like my team-mates, the staff and my club.

“For the moment, I am still under contract until 2021. I am going to have to continue to train well and play matches.

“Even though I know that there are clubs that want me, that is certain, I am keeping my feet on the ground.

“We will discuss my future at the end of the season with my agents and my family.”
