Arsenals incredible 35 pass move for Ozils goal was most in Prem this season as fans purr over Artetas Pep style

ARSENAL’S third goal against Newcastle was the first real sign that Mikel Arteta is beginning to have a big influence on his side.

The Gunners ran out convincing 4-0 winners but it was Mesut Ozil’s strike that stood out after finishing a move that included 35 passes in the buildup.

Mesut Ozil finished off a fine 35-passing move

Revealed by stats from Opta, every single Arsenal player touched the ball at least once before Alexandre Lacazette laid it into the German’s path.

And in a throwback to the glory days under former boss Arsene Wenger, it was ten passes more than any other Premier League goal scored this season.

A graphic that shows where each player touched the ball on the pitch reveals just how well worked the goal was.

Goalscorer Ozil was seen taking a touch around ten-yards inside his own half to help spark the move.

It included going back to keeper Bernd Leno as Arsenal switched the ball from both sides of the flank to carve the visitors open.

Ozil was fortunate with the finish as it squirmed through the keeper’s hands but it was remarkably his first goal of the season.

It was still some way off the record for the most passes before a Premier League goal that actually goes to rivals Tottenham.

In 2014, Nacer Chadli capped off a 48-passing move before scoring in a 4-0 victory.

Manchester City have the overall record when they passed the ball 52 times before scoring in a League Cup match against West Brom in 2017.

Arsenal fans have flooded social media to praise Arteta and believe his assistant job under Pep Guardiola is having a huge impact on his first managerial position.

One supporter said: “Arteta is a dangerous blend of Wenger and Pep.”

Another added: “The Guardiola effect, my bad I mean Arteta.”

A third joked: “If Pep Guardiola wants to leave Man City, he is more than welcome to join Arsenal as Arteta’s assistant.”
