Arsenal’s Martinelli suffers injury blow and has goal ruled out against Everton

Injury forces Martinelli off the pitch

Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli was forced off injured during the team's match against Everton. The winger's day quickly turned sour after he appeared to have scored, putting Arsenal ahead 1-0 in the 21st minute. However, the goal was controversially ruled out due to offside, specifically Eddie Nketiah's involvement in the build-up.

Injury comes after confident finish

Martinelli burst through on a pass from Fabio Vieira and confidently finished with a curling shot to the left of Jordan Pickford. Unfortunately, it seems that Martinelli tweaked a muscle when he believed he had given Arsenal the lead. As a result, he was substituted for Leandro Trossard.

Concerns for Martinelli's fitness

The injury to Martinelli will undoubtedly have Arsenal worried about his fitness ahead of the upcoming derby with Tottenham next week. Before that, Arsenal's Champions League campaign will begin as they host PSV on Wednesday, marking the team's return to the competition after a seven-year absence.

Ramsdale's absence paves the way for Raya

Arsenal's decision to exclude Aaron Ramsdale from the squad makes it likely that he will start as the goalkeeper against PSV. Manager Mikel Arteta wants to assess the abilities of backup goalkeeper Raya, who arrived on loan with an option to buy for £27 million after impressing in training with his ball-playing skills.

Selection dilemmas for Arteta

Arteta will also face a selection headache ahead of the North London Derby, particularly concerning the choice between Fabio Vieira and Kai Havertz. Havertz was left out for the match against Everton but had started Arsenal's previous four Premier League games.
