Still a Registered Player
Des Bremner, the midfield legend who played for Hibs and Aston Villa over 40 years ago, is still going strong on the football pitch. Despite being in his seventies, Bremner remains registered with the FA as a player and continues to play for Shard End Over-63s in Birmingham.
Reunions with Old Clubs
Bremner will have an emotional reunion with his two former clubs this week. He will be attending the match at Easter Road and also plans to visit Villa Park next week. Speaking about the occasion, Bremner said, "I'm thinking of going with a half green and half claret-and-blue scarf!"
Unexpected European Cup Win
Reflecting on his time at Aston Villa, Bremner expressed his disbelief at being part of a European Cup-winning team. "It had been an ambition of mine to play in England – but I never believed I'd play in a European Cup-winning team," he said. To commemorate his achievement, Bremner is considering taking his medal up to Edinburgh with him.
Active on the Pitch
Despite his age, Bremner still maintains an active lifestyle and plays walking football once a week. While the rules do not allow tackling, Bremner admits, "I always liked a tackle!"
Battle of Britain Euro Ties
Bremner played key matches in the Battle of Britain Euro ties with Hibs. In 1973, they took Leeds to penalties in the Uefa Cup but were knocked out after Pat Stanton hit the post. The following season, they faced Liverpool and won at home, but were defeated by John Toshack's hat-trick at Anfield.
