Aston Villa want Brentford winger Said Benrahma with 20m January transfer bid being eyed

ASTON VILLA are hoping to secure Brentford winger Said Benrahma in a 20million deal as they look to bolster their squad in January to ensure Premier League survival.

The Midlands club made several bids to bring the Algerian to Villa Park in the summer, but were ultimately unsuccessful.

Said Benrahma was one of the stand-out stars for Brentford last season

But the newly-promoted outfit are set to renew their interest in the talented forward, according to Sky Sports

Benrahma, 24, scored 11 times and assisted 17 more in a superb 2018-19 campaign for The Bees.

And he has re-discovered that form in recent weeks with two goals in his last three appearances after an injury-hit start to the season.

It is thought it will take a fee of 20m to prise him away from last season’s 11th place Championship side.

If they cannot get that deal over the line then Villa boss Dean Smith could look to an alternative in Norwich’s Emiliano Buendia.

But the Argentine is expected to be even more expensive than Benrahma and had inferior stats to him last season.

Smith’s side do need an injection of quality as they are currently winless in the league since the middle of October and sit 17th, just three points above the relegation zone.

However, they have scored more than any of the bottom nine and so there will be more than enough competition for places going forward if Benrahma is signed in January.
