Barcelona set to beg Samuel Umtiti to quit in January after ‘receiving Premier League transfer offers’

SAMUEL UMTITI remains a Barcelona player despite the best efforts of the club to get him out the door.

But the cash-strapped Catalan giants may finally get rid of the Frenchman in January with transfer offers already ‘arriving’ for him, reports suggest.

Umtiti has not played since a pre-season friendly against Juventus where he was booed by Barca fans

The club did everything in their power to get the 27-year-old centre-back to move on in the summer but ultimately failed.

And according to Spanish outlet Sport Nou Camp chiefs will once again ‘ask him to leave’ this month.

He reportedly has offers from Premier League teams, as well as clubs in France and Turkey to join in January.

The clubs remain unnamed, although they are ‘not top-level teams’.

After a meeting with president Joan Laporta Umtiti agreed to take a lower wage and demonstrate he had what it takes to succeed at the club.

But after failing to play a single minute of football this campaign Barca’s patience has seemingly ran out.

November has been labelled as the ‘key month’ to get a deal done in time for January.

If talks begin now there is plenty of time to thrash out terms ahead of the opening of the winter window.

If an agreement can’t be reached and the saga drags on into the New Year, Barca face having to pay his wages all the way through until the summer.

Umtiti has played 132 times for the club since joining from Lyon for £22.5million in 2016.

But none of those have come this season – with the defender also playing just 16 times in all competitions last campaign.

Spurs have previously been linked with a move for the 2018 World Cup winner.

And he also reportedly rejected offers from Roma, Nice and Monaco in the summer.
