Barcelona ‘want Man Utd old boy Adnan Januzaj in summer transfer with contract at Real Sociedad set to expire’

ADNAN JANUZAJ is WANTED by cash-strapped Barcelona as his contract expires next summer.

The ex-Manchester United prospect has shone at Real Sociedad and the Catalan giants are said to be interested in the creative winger, reports say.

Januzai, now 26, was one of Man Utd’s brightest young stars at the beginning of his career

According to Spanish outlet, Sport, Barcelona are hoping that they can make a January move for the 26-year-old as his contract winds down.

Januzaj was one of Man Utd’s brightest young starlets and promoted to the first team squad ready for the 2013/14 season.

In what was his first start for the club, the highly-rated hotshot scored a brace in a comeback win against Sunderland.

A promising beginning to his career at Manchester United saw Januzaj make 27 Premier League appearances that season, with four goals.

However when manager David Moyes left the club, a turbulent relationship with Louis Van Gaal halted his progress.

Januzaj previously spoke of his relationship with Van Gaal: “When I played my first season at United and came through the academy, people were showing me love.

“Then obviously when a coach comes who doesn’t show you love, it gets more difficult to prove yourself and be happy.

“Even if you had a bad pass, Van Gaal would shout at you.

“For young players that isn’t good, you have to teach them. A coach is like a teacher, that’s what I missed the most.”

The Belgium international was then shipped off for unsuccessful loan spells at Borussia Dortmund and Sunderland.

United finally ended the experiment and sold Januzaj to Sociedad back in 2017.

But president of Real Sociedad, Jokin Aperribay hopes to keep Januzaj away from Barcelona.

He said: “I have hope that he stays here, that he stays with us.”
