Berbatov reveals what Ronaldo’s return to Man Utd means for Rashford, Cavani, Martial & Greenwood with mixed results

CRISTIANO RONALDO’S arrival at Manchester United leaves a ‘big question mark’ over Anthony Martial, according to Dimitar Berbatov.

And the former Red Devil also thinks it will impact Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood’s roles at Old Trafford in different ways.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s impact will have varied impacts on Man Utd’s current forwards, according to Dimitar Berbatov
But the Bulgarian thinks Mason Greenwood’s place in the team is safe

United re-signed Ronaldo, 36, in a spectacular £21million move from Juventus.

But given the last minute nature of the transfer, it has left many fans asking what his arrival will mean for the forwards already at the club

And Berbatov, 40, shares those concerns and is particularly worried for Frenchman Martial.

The Bulgarian told Betfair: “Where Ronaldo fits into the United side is the question I asked myself because we have Martial, Rashford, [Jadon] Sancho and Cavani so there are a lot of attacking options.

“I actually think Martial is going to have a big question mark over his head and I’m probably more concerned about that.”

Berbatov scored 56 goals and provided 27 assists in 149 games for United between 2008 and 2012 and reckons superstar Ronaldo can still play anywhere along the front line.

The former Tottenham man added: “I think he can play any position up front if he modifies his game a little bit because of his age.”

Ronaldo’s £480,000-a-week wage will make him the club’s highest earner.

And many have suggested such status will mean he will play whenever he is fit.

Greenwood has scored in both of United’s Premier League games this season and Berba reckons the 19-year-old’s place in the team is safe even if this is the case.

He added: “I think Greenwood is in a good position right now.

“He’s the future of the team for sure and he’s someone who could definitely be given more playing time because for me he’s a natural finisher.

“He can only get better as long as he plays and I don’t think his place is in question.

“Rashford is someone who also is born and bred in Manchester and I think he’ll be fine and Cavani also has his place and that’s why I’m curious to see how Ole’s going to rotate everyone.

“Of course when you are 36 you are more mature and you know the team comes first and maybe sometimes you will sit on the bench or come on as a sub.

“Ronaldo would probably like to play every game but he knows that sometimes he will need to sacrifice himself for the team.”

SunSport also revealed Dan James will be allowed to leave on loan after Ronaldo’s arrival.
