With the pair contesting a ball as it rolled out of play, Williams gave his opponent a little nudge in the back that sent the Seagull ace flying off the pitch.

Maupay was furious and confronted Williams but the kid showed a wise head on his shoulders as he resisted rising to the bait.

Its not the first time Williams has pushed an opponent off the pitch, with the fledgling doing the same to Callum Hudson-Odoi during the Red Devils recent meeting with Chelsea.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave Williams his first start in the top flight after a string of impressive performances in other competitions from the academy product.

With Luke Shaw injured and Ashley Young suspended it was an easy decision for the Manchester United boss to make.

Explaining his decision before kick-off, Solskjaer said: Ive liked what Ive seen from him since hes come into the group.

Obviously we could have given him a game on Thursday [the 3-0 win over Partizan in the Europa League] but I thought it was best for him to be preparing for this one.

Brandons been very good when hes played. Its a good test for him.

I rested him on Thursday night just for him to be ready. I think its fair when young boys play their first start in the Premier League they should be rested.
