Brendan Rodgers reveals he turned down management offers from two Premier League rivals while at Leicester

BRENDAN RODGERS revealed he rejected two managerial offers to stay at Leicester City.

The Foxes boss has been under pressure following Leicester’s dismal start to the season.

Brendan Rodgers rejected Arsenal and Newcastle to stay at Leicester

But he bounced back well with a convincing 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Monday and he is grateful for the trust he has received from the owner.

Rodgers, 49, is believed to have rejected an approach from Arsenal around December 2019, when the Gunners sacked Unai Emery.

The former Liverpool boss instead penned a new contract with Leicester before also rejecting Newcastle following their Saudi takeover in October 2021.

Rodgers said of his decision to stay: “The owners know my loyalty because I stayed when maybe I could have left.

“But that doesn’t mean they owe me anything. I want to do it for the club and the supporters and they trust me to do that.

“Top and his family and the other staff here have always been super supportive of me. They understand the challenges we’ve had over the summer.

“They understand the difficulties and where I’m coming from. But they know they have total respect from me so I don’t need Top or anyone to sit me down. They trust I can do the job.

“There is a lot of work to do but after Tottenham (where Leicester lost 6-2) despite the scoreline I felt I had my team back. The mood change has been really good from the players’ perspective.”

Leicester’s win over Forest was their first of the season and moved them off the bottom of the Premier League table.

Victory over Bournemouth on Saturday could lift them out of the relegation zone and with James Maddison one of the in-form players in the league, another three points is on the cards.
