New Signing
Brighton & Hove Albion have reportedly agreed a deal with Lille for the transfer of Carlos Baleba, as they look to replace their star midfielder Moises Caicedo.
Replacing Caicedo
The Seagulls lost Caicedo to Chelsea in a British record £115 million deal. Now, they are hoping to fill the void left by the Ecuadorian by bringing in Baleba.
Profitable Sale
Brighton made a huge profit on Caicedo's sale, as they had only paid £5 million for him in 2021.
Liverpool's Missed Opportunity
Chelsea managed to complete the transfer after Caicedo rejected a potential move to Liverpool.
Strengthening Midfield
Brighton have already bolstered their midfield options this summer with the signings of James Milner and Mahmoud Dahoud on free transfers.
Incoming Baleba
Manager Roberto De Zerbi has made it clear that the club needs a direct replacement for Caicedo, and it appears they have found it in Baleba. Fabrizio Romano reports that Brighton have agreed a £26 million deal to sign the 19-year-old from Lille.
Nearing Completion
Personal terms are said to have been agreed upon, and a medical has been scheduled for the Cameroonian.
Lille's Replacement Plans
In the wake of Baleba's potential departure, Lille is in talks to sign former Tottenham midfielder Nabil Bentaleb as his replacement.
Awaiting Decision
Lille president Olivier Letang confirmed that they are awaiting the results of additional examinations for Bentaleb, and they hope to soon finalize his contract.
