The Milner, 37, has made the move to the Sussex side on a one-year contract with an option for a further year.

Manager Roberto De Zerbi hailed the signing and argued that he will take the club to a “higher level”.

He told club media: “I’m very glad to welcome James to Brighton.

“He’s an excellent addition for us and I’m sure he will help to bring us to an even higher level.”

Meanwhile, technical director David Weir added: “We are delighted that James has agreed to join us after a hugely successful period at Liverpool.

“His experience speaks for itself with the amount of games he has played and the trophies he has won throughout a decorated career.

“These games include European competition, which will be of huge value to us as we embark on our first season in Europe.

“Milner won the Prem, Champions League and FA Cup in his eight years at Anfield.

“We’re looking forward to working with James when the players return for pre-season.”

Before that, he helped City lift the top-flight crown twice, as well as tasting victory in the FA Cup and EFL Cup.

Now he’ll join fellow ex-Liverpool star Adam Lallana, 35, at the Amex Stadium.

It is thought that Brighton beat Leeds to the signing after the Championship side were also linked with a move to re-sign him.

Milner is third in the all-time Premier League appearance makers list after playing in 619 matches, only behind Gareth barry [652] and Ryan Giggs [632].

Brighton have also announced the signing of Watford star Joao Pedro.
