Brighton Eye Lille Teenager Carlos Baleba as Replacement for Moises Caicedo

Baleba: Brighton's Cut-Price Replacement

Brighton is on the hunt for a cut-price replacement for Moises Caicedo, who recently made a British record move to Chelsea for £115 million. The club has set its sights on Lille teenager Carlos Baleba as the man to fill the void left in the defensive midfield position.

One of French Football's Hottest Prospects

Baleba, a 19-year-old youth international from Cameroon, has already garnered a reputation as one of French football's hottest young prospects. Despite having played just 20 games for Lille, his talent and potential have caught the attention of Brighton's talent spotters.

The Price is Right

Lille values Baleba at £26 million, but Brighton believes they can secure him for around £20 million. However, the club needs to move quickly as other teams have also taken notice of the youngster's potential.

Battle with Liverpool

Liverpool, who were initially set to pay Brighton £110 million for Caicedo before the player rejected the move, could potentially hijack Brighton's pursuit of Baleba. However, Brighton is confident that their offer of regular Premier League football and a track record of nurturing unknown talents into international stars will sway the young midfielder in their favor.

Gourna-Douath Linked with a Move to Brighton

In addition to Baleba, Brighton has also been linked with a potential move for Red Bull Salzburg star Lucas Gourna-Douath. The 20-year-old has drawn comparisons to former Manchester United player Paul Pogba and has a shared history with the French midfielder.

Gourna-Douath trained with Torcy, the same Parisian outfit Pogba played for, before moving on to St Etienne and eventually signing with Salzburg for £13 million. He has made 36 appearances for the Austrian club.
