Brighton's Plan B
Brighton have shifted their focus to Arsenal's Albert Sambi Lokonga as they search for a replacement for Moises Caicedo. The Seagulls had initially targeted Lille midfielder Carlos Baleba but the deal hit a snag on Monday night.
Midfield Reinforcements
The departure of Caicedo to Chelsea earlier this summer left Brighton in need of a new midfielder. After completing a British record £115 million move to Stamford Bridge, the club is eager to find a suitable replacement.
Lokonga in the Spotlight
Brighton are now eyeing a move for Arsenal's Albert Sambi Lokonga instead. The Belgian midfielder, who is not part of Mikel Arteta's plans, could join the Seagulls on an initial loan deal. Lokonga has made 39 appearances since joining Arsenal in 2021 and still has three years remaining on his contract. Additionally, he had a brief loan spell at Crystal Palace last season, making nine appearances for the Eagles.
The Summer Signings
Should Lokonga make the move to Brighton, he will become Roberto De Zerbi's sixth signing of the summer. The Seagulls have already welcomed Joao Pedro, Bart Verbruggen, and Igor Julio for a combined fee of £60 million. In addition, Mahmoud Dahoud and James Milner have joined the club on free transfers.
Brighton's Flying Start
On the pitch, Brighton has made a perfect start to the new season. They have won both of their matches, securing impressive 4-1 victories over Luton and Wolves. As a result, they currently sit at the top of the Premier League table. This weekend, they will face West Ham at home.
