Arsenal star Saka, 20, was subjected to vile abuse after missing from the penalty spot in the Euro 2020 final against Italy.

But he is a popular character within the England squad.

And Southgate was full of praise for the Gunners talent, saying: “He’s a fabulous kid.

“His family have been brilliant with him. Here, he felt the love of the players and staff immediately after the Euros.

Saka has featured in both Nations League games and could start on the bench against Italy today.

England lost their tournament opener 1-0 in Hungary before securing a 1-1 draw away to Germany.

The Three Lions host Italy on Saturday before completing their four-game window at home to Hungary on Tuesday.
