Burnley boss Sean Dyche eyes bargain 1m transfer of Celtic midfielder Nir Bitton in January

The Burnley boss wants Bitton, 28, in January to boost his options in a number of different positions at Turf Moor.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche wants to sign Celtic midfielder Nir Bitton in January

Bitton , who stands 6ft 4ins, could compete with Jack Cork and Ashley Westwood in central midfield but can also play at centre-back and offer cover.

His contract at Celtic Park expires in the summer and Burnley are eyeing a 1million move to land him mid-season.

Dyche is looking at options to boost his squad and Bitton fits comfortably into the wage structure at the club.

Cork and Westwood have played in almost every game for Dyche and Danny Drinkwater has failed to make an impression, starting just one EFL Cup during his loan from Chelsea.

Meanwhile, it looks like Burnley will pull the plug on Danny Drinkwaters spell.

The Clarets can extend the midfielders loan from Chelsea in January.

But, again, it would be at his full wages – an eye-watering 120,000-a-week.

Drinkwater has done little to force his way into Dyches side and they are now looking at alternatives.

The former England midfielder has made just one appearance for the club, in the Carabao Cup.

He was left injured and unable to play after an he was attacked outside a nightclub in September.

The brawl, allegedly following a dispute with fellow footballer Kgosi Ntlhe, left him with ankle ligament damage.

Drinkwater has played just 23 times since leaving Leicester City in 2017.
