Chelsea 2 Fulham 0: Nkunku scores his third goal of pre-season as youngsters impress again for Pochettino’s side

CHRISTOPHER NKUNKU scored his third goal in four pre-season games for Chelsea to see off London rivals Fulham.

The 25-year-old signed for the Blues this summer for £52m from Red Bull Leipzig – and has had an instant impact on Mauricio Pochettino’s squad as they crowned their Premier League Summer Series win with silverware.

Fans will be hoping there’s more silverware to come this season

French international Nkunku showed his attacking instincts to tap-in a close-range rebound four minutes before half time.

And it added to goals he previously scored against Wrexham and Brighton during this United States tour.

Thiago Silva notched the opener from a Ben Chilwell corner after 20 minutes – ensuring the West Londoners finished top of the Premier League Summer Series table.

Poch put out another experimental side against the Cottagers, with 19-year-old duo Gabriel Slonina in goal and Mason Burstow up front.

A concern will be the sight of Trevoh Chalobah limping off on the hour mark with a suspected injury.

Fulham’s squad was without wantaway striker Aleksandar Mitrovic once again, despite boss Marco Silva confirming pre-match that he had returned to full training in the States.

New signings Calvin Bassey and Raul Jimenez made their debuts in the second half.

Following veteran centre back Silva’s free header to give Chelsea the lead, Carney Chukwuemeka had a shot from range well saved by Bernd Leno.

However, Nkunku was there on the follow-up to touch into an empty net.

At half time, Poch made a whole host of changes, including bringing on the likes of Conor Gallagher, Reece James, Levi Colwill, Nicolas Jackson and Marc Cucurella.

The Blues held strong against Fulham as they continued to go close to goal.

And the end of the match saw Pochettino win his first trophy, with Chelsea being handed the Premier League Summer Series cup by their American hosts.

Chelsea now travel to Chicago for the final leg of their US trip – a friendly against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday before returning to London.
