Chelsea and Bayern Leverkusen in Havertz transfer stalemate with Germans ‘refusing to give corona discount’ on £90m fee

CHELSEA are reportedly being refused a “corona discount” on a deal to sign Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen.

Sky Sports reports the German side are holding out for their £90million asking price.

Bayer Leverkusen will not budge on their valuation of Kai Havertz

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder is believed to be keen on the move to Stamford Bridge.

Havertz told Leverkusen he wants to move on in his career.

Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro said: “Kai has voiced his desire to make the next step.”

But he has an agreement with the Bundesliga side that he will only be allowed to move if their valuation is met and an acceptable offer arrives.

The Blues have already splashed the cash on another German in Timo Werner as well as playmaker Hakim Ziyech.

And it appears Frank Lampard – who dashed back from France to avoid quarantine – will not be able to snare a cut-price bargain as Leverkusen stand firm.

The report states the club are unwilling to accept any offers lower than £90m – despite the financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic.

Havertz is one of the most exciting European prospects, justifying the hype with 12 goals and six assists in 30 Bundesliga appearances last season.

The Germany international has two years left on his deal and his price will almost certainly drop if Leverkusen do not cash in this summer.

But the club are adamant Havertz is NOT overpriced.

However, the Blues have been warned over signing Havertz by a former Arsenal legend.

Lukas Podolski suggested Havertz might not be cut out for the Premier League.

He said: “I think he is still missing some strength and power, but he should taste the drink of the Premier League and see if he likes it.”
