CHELSEA and Newcastle saw £47million offers turned down by Lazio for star midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to reports.

Both of the Premier League teams are looking to bolster their midfield options this summer.

And Milinkovic-Savic, 27, has landed on the radar of some top clubs after turning in another productive season.

The midfielder scored 11 and assisted 12 across all competitions last term.

According to Il Messaggero, Chelsea and Newcastle offered Lazio £47m for Milinkovic-Savic’s services.

But the Italian outfit turned down the approach and are hoping to collect a fee closer to £69m with Milinkovic-Savic’s contract due to expire in 2024.

Lazio wanted more than £86m for the Serbia international before the pandemic.

Both Chelsea and Newcastle are expected to have busy summers.

Under new ownership of Todd Boehly, Chelsea are keen on making a number of marquee signings.

Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.

Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, who was subject to transfer interest from Chelsea last summer, could also make the switch.

As for Newcastle, they’re chasing a potential deal for Chelsea striker Armando Broja.

The young striker spent last season on loan at Southampton.
